Frequently Asked Questions
Q
What is the difference between GPPS and HIPS?
GPPS (General Purpose Polystyrene) is highly transparent and rigid but relatively brittle, making it ideal for clear packaging, containers, and optical parts. HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) contains butadiene rubber, which provides significantly higher impact strength and toughness, suitable for housings, toys, and structural components.
Q
What are the primary applications of GON525?
GON525 is a highly transparent GPPS grade commonly used for refrigerator parts (like crispers and trays), stationery (pen barrels), kitchen containers, packaging boxes, and foamed articles (PSP/XPS).
Q
Can GON535N be blended with other polymers?
Yes, GON535N is suitable for blending with High Impact Polystyrene (HIPS) to achieve a balance of transparency and impact resistance, particularly in heat contact applications.
Q
What makes GON825 ideal for injection molding?
GON825 features a medium flow rate and very high impact strength, which ensures excellent processability, short cycle times, and robust mechanical properties for consumer electronics housings, toys, and kitchenware.
Q
How does Melt Flow Index (MFI) affect these polystyrene grades?
A higher MFI (like STL525 at 9 g/10 min) indicates lower viscosity and easier flow, which is beneficial for thin-walled injection molding. A lower MFI (like GON535N at 2.7 g/10 min) offers better melt strength, making it ideal for extrusion processes like sheets and foamed profiles.
